How can I do this? e.g., greeting cards, postcards, etc. Any suggestions on how to profit from my hobby? Thanks!

I used to know a girl who took pictures for a Realtor. She would go to houses that were for sale and take appealing shots of the house, for those house magazines. I think she was paid per job.
Stock Photography is nice option for you,
If photography is your hobby then why not convert it into profession?
Just sell your photographs to stock photography site and earn good sums of money
Check to see if there are any art shows in your area. At Christmas time, offer one of your finer works to a radio station to auction off for charity. Or any news media source for that matter.
Set up a webpage. Tell friends and neighbors to tell their friends about your work. However, in southern CA, don’t be surprised if you meet a lot of negativity from those already in the profession. Stick to your guns and tough it out.
Check out a micrstock photo agency. It’s a great place to begin making money from your photography. I started at this site about a year ago.
If the photos were about travel ,you could sell them to travel agencies,if the photos were photojournalist,sell them to Newspaper companies,or you could make an exhibitions and donate your photos to the member’s of the Photographic Societies,etc.Good Luck to you.

Now for the question.
I’ve been able to make money while traveling around to different events.
Pee wee football, Cart races, church sporting events.
Races of all types. Just see and shoot. If you get good stuff ask the subject if they want a disc or hard copy. Then be sure to make your own website and properly tag your images. That brings me some residual cash. Geocities offers free hosting up to 15MB.
Digital makes it so much more cost effective and faster than film.
