There are several robotics kits on the market. Probably the new LEGO Mindstorms NXT is the easiest, but there are many others.
I found an interesting magazine called ‘Nuts and Volts’. Offers simple robotic projects, schematics, etc. Good luck.
This mag teaches you how to scrap build your own robots and other stuff too! Its great and some stuff is free! Dig deeper and find more robotics!
