I’ve seen events groups for young people, but they all seem a bit ‘sad’ – I don’t want to join a group whose purpose is to help people develop a social life. Instead, I want to try out new activities and sports that will allow me to make new friends.
Any suggestions?
So for, I have thought about ultimate frisbee, as that’s quite fun, casual and relaxed – and it’s mixed ***.

martial arts are fun
Well.. your quite lucky you live in London for a start..
If you like frisbee, perhaps you’ll like poi.. It’s great for meeting interesting people and also developing your mind and motor skills.
They have listings for local groups I think.
I’m in a similar position myself. How about joining a gym or keep fit type of club? That way you will be mixing with people and can talk to who you want to build up friendships. Other recommendations would be perhaps an evening class – I know you might think that’s one of the ‘sad’ options you mention but it might be a good way. Do you have good work colleagues you could socialise with – perhaps even for the first time of going somewhere new and then you go on your own once you feel comfortable? I’ve just joined my local volunteer bureau and am hoping to meet people that way. Good luck to you.
I agree martial arts are good to learn and have a social side too if you find the right club.
go along to watch some clubs train, any good club will either let you watch or give you a free lesson.
Get a bike join a cycle touring club. You’ll meet some great and crazy people of all ages find some really good places to visit and you’ll really enjoy the summer.
