Fabric Printing Using Inkjet Printers

Technology has done a lot for us as consumers. Not only has it made a lot of things faster, more efficient, and easier, but it has also given us the ability to have some creative fun in ways never before possible. The ability to print on fabric can be appreciated by fashion gurus, quilters, or even full-blown sports fans. Fortunately for you, you weren’t the first to think up such an idea. In fact, there are a couple different ways to translate an image to fabric. The first method is to use a printer friendly fabric that can be printed on directly. The second method is to use a special transfer paper that transfers with heat. No matter which method you use, you can end up with a product that makes a real statement.

Now, there are several special printer supplies for this kind of thing, like fabric sheets that can be used in a standard inkjet printer to print directly to a fabric. These sheets, which can be found in a number of sizes including 8 1/2 x 11″, 11 x 17″ and 13 x 19″, can simply be sewn together as traditional fabrics once printed on and dried. You can hand-pick photos, patterns, clip art, or you can actually draw something by hand and scan it into the computer. Then, you can use a photography editing program to change the image to exactly what you want. Following that, you take the fabric sheets, load them into your printer, and start printing. Be sure to load it correctly, so that the image is printed on the correct surface and follow the guidelines on the product packaging for direction on set time and possible soaking. Then prepare the sewing machine or needle and thread. However, while these products work great for shams, quilts, curtains, and the like, it won’t work so well on some materials. For those looking to create logoed T-shirts, personalized neckties, or even gift wrapping ribbon, there is a more practical product called heat-activated transfer sheets. This kind of paper is often used in printer-friendly fashion trends, and it proves to be an easy way to add a little something to pre-made fabrics. In this case, you’ll need some sort of material, usually clothing, that you would like to put an image on. The next step is to locate the image and edit it the same way as before. Print the image on the transfer paper after you have properly loaded it into your printer. Most likely, you’ll want to cut the borders off of the image. You do not want much more that a thin border surrounding it. After this point, read and follow the directions that came with the product to get the best results. Different products can have different instructions, and it’s important to follow the right ones. Then, you can simply wear or display your creation with pride at having created it yourself.

Quilting and clothing designing could be significantly altered by these incredible products. Make custom T-shirts, put your face on your birthday napkins, or make socks for yourself with a unique pattern on them. A printer and some special printer supplies can turn an average project into a fun, creative adventure, no matter which way you choose to go about it.
