I just recently decided to pick up sewing as a hobby and I was told I could do just fine for now by handstiching but in the long run I would like to purchase a inexpensive sewing machine to learn how to sew on ? Please if you know of a good machine to buy for cheap please tell me ?!

Try one of the Brother sewing machines from WalMart. I got one years ago and it still works really well. I sew a lot of denim and it does a good job. It was only $100 about 6 yrs ago and doesn’t have a bunch of fancy stitches. You don’t need those right away anyway just starting out. Any of the Brother machines $75 to $120 should be fine and hold you for a little while before you are ready to invest in a fancy one.
I bought a small sewing machine for about $30 for my 12 year old niece to learn on. I wish I had just got her the same one I got. It was just too light in weight and it seemed like it wouldn’t handle the larger projects very well. Good luck!
Kenmore by Sears is a good machine with a variety of functions and prices.
Don’t know how ‘cheap’ you want to go but here is a simple site with fare prices and a good selection.About the only thing they don’t have is how to videos, but you can probably find some on you tube.
Any good sewing machine store will have second hand machines that have been serviced and are usually reasonable in price. When you decide to move up into something fancier, I would recommend a Bernina. Enjoy your new hobby!!
I’m a fashion design student and I have bought MANY different types of machines. If you don’t plan on sewing very often, I suggest getting a Brother or any machine at Wal-Mart. It would cost you about $80 or more.
If you plan on sewing A LOT then I suggest getting a Singer or a Kenmore.. and buy it from Sears because they have very good warranties.
Goodluck and happy sewing!
Picking up a sewing machine and being able to use with proficiency is like jumping into a car for the very first time to drive in the Monaco Grand Prix!
Save yourself a lot of grief and frustration and go to sewing machine dealers and tell them your story, including your budget. If you are a minor, take a parent with you.
The dealers will help you choose a machine that fits your needs. They will show you how to use the machine and they will be available to answer questions and provide assistance.
Some dealers also offer lessons.
Buy the machine you like best from the dealer you like best – they all sell good machines or they would not be in business.
I’ve had 2 Kenmore machines and I Have loved them both.
